Here is a typical sequence which shows how the LabComm software manages the communication with the analyser and a LIMS. In this example LabComm is sending test orders from a LIMS simultaneously to three different analysers using sockets and HL7. The analysers are assumed to be communicating via the protocol ASTM and serial (RS-232). In reality they may be remote and / or communicating in different protocols.

1. LabComm receives an HL7 test Order from a LIMS system (the host)
2. LabComm saves the order to the database
3. LabComm sends an accept message to the host (if required by the host protocol)
4. LabComm converts the message to ASTM or another format as required and sends it to the analyser
5. If the Message is sent successfully, LabComm marks the Order as sent
6. LabComm keeps on scanning for unsent messages and tries to send them to the analyser
7. After the Analyser has accepted the data, LabComm marks the message as sent.
