Laboratory analysers send data in a variety of complex formats or protocols.

The analyser data stream will include unfamiliar characters. These characters include characters in the ASCII character set which rarely appear on computer screens, such as the ACK or ASCII 06 character.

The ASCII data set is displayed below. Characters such as 5 - 05H - Enquiry are used to start a data transmission process and 6 - 06H - Acknowledge to  Acknowledge or 'ACK' that a transmission has been received.

 The characters in the ASCII data set are automatically handled by LabComm, via the interpretation of the data stream. The information is provided for reference only
